Prompt: one thing straight

Logan’s gaze drifted down the row of students. “Which of you… geniuses thought this plan up?” he asked, unable to keep the frustration out of his voice.

A crash sounded from the classroom and Jeremy flinched. He should have guessed! Who else, but the class clown, would think it funny to release a horde of pixies into the classroom?

“Let me make this perfectly clear,” Logan said, “While pixies are not considered dangerous magical creatures, they are very destructive ones.”

“Yes, sir,” Jeremy said. He flinched at another resounding crash from behind the closed and locked door. “But I – I read that they’re great for catching muffs and… Naomi’s pet…”

“I knew he was in the class, but not where,” Naomi said, nodding.

Logan laughed. He couldn’t help it. “You released the pixies to capture the muff?” he said. Had he understood that correctly? The two youngsters nodded. Logan burst out laughing. Shaking his head, he said, “Did you plan out how to catch the pixies?”

“No, sir,” Jeremy said, looking chagrined.

Nodding, Logan patted his shoulder gently. “Better plans in the future, right?” When the boy nodded, he said, “Well, now seems a good time to teach you the pixie capture spell.”
