Round and Round

Another story about my school kids inspired by a picture prompt from the WriYe DreamWidth.

Lyall blinked in surprise when a girl he didn’t know bounded over to the merry-go-round. “Hey,” she said, her eyes shining with mischief.

“Um, hello,” he said, blinking. He glanced around for Orion or Henry. Surely, she wasn’t looking for him. He gave her a weak smile and shook his head. “Can I… help you?”

She giggled and said, “Pick up your feet.” Once he’d done so, she grabbed hold of one of the bars and began running. Lyall gasped and held on more securely. Once they were going fast enough, she jumped on, holding onto the bar beside her with her other hand.28-828f9ea017

As soon as the merry-go-round slowed, she smiled at him. “I’m Adhara. What’s your name?”

“Lyall,” he said, his voice soft. “Um, thanks for the ride… I guess.”

Adhara nodded. “Want to go again?” At his nod, she clambered off and began pushing it again. “Let’s see how fast this thing can go,” she said, as she hopped on a second time.
